You've encountered a known bug with tracing reflection (part of the patchy-ness I mentioned).
If you need to debug such a process, you'll need to resort to other means, such as Miscellaneous|Notify Error (if you need to inspect field values on the server side) or Display Actions|Alert (on the client side).
