“Tersus Software sees the Tersus Visual Programming Platform as a major step forward in fundamentally changing the way organizations create and maintain software,” said Mr. Ofer Brandes, Tersus CEO. “What we suggest is a replacement for the tedious process of translating lengthy specification documents into error-prone code. Instead developers can model through visual diagrams the application’s business logic, as well as its GUI and user interaction. Many software design tools allow you to create diagrams that serve as blueprints or skeletons, but need to be implemented later in code. We believe that the visual diagrams should serve simultaneously as the application’s specification, implementation and documentation. This overcomes the unfortunate “instant legacy” phenomenon of inconsistencies between what the application is supposed to do, what you think it is doing and what it actually does.”
“Releasing our platform as open source is a natural step for Tersus,” said Mr. Brandes. “You don’t need the source code in order to be open about it. Actually, developing applications visually, without the need to write code in a programming language, is an extremely powerful mechanism to expose the application’s functionality to users and thus increase software customizability. As open source software, the Tersus Platform will be accessible to virtually anyone to experience and use, and comments from the community will help it improve faster. Each diagram (model) is saved as an XML document, so an open source community will be created around a Model Exchange through which people can share model libraries and full applications.”
“Tersus simplifies web application development by using a single visual language to define the user interface, client-side behavior and server-side processing. With Tersus, IT professionals and business experts, and not only programming gurus, can rapidly create web based enterprise applications,” said Youval Bronicki, Tersus Chief Developer. ”We tried to take the end-user experience and ease of use as a number one priority, without derogating from technological robustness. For that reason, Tersus ships by default with an all-in-one pre-packaged and integrated application server and database server”.
Tersus Platform is now available for free download on the Tersus community site (www.tersus.org). It is already used in production for multiple applications types, and is available on multiple hardware and operating systems.
