Tersus: Getting Updates

Getting UpdatesDate: Mar 10, 2021Tersus StudioTersus Studio makes use of Eclipse's built-in software update mechanism, which queries the Tersus update site over the Internet, and provides a wizard to download and install the update.We provide 2 update sites:

Stable - http://updates.tersus.com/2.3/stable
Containing the last version announced as stable (see in the Announcements forum and the Download page).

Latest - http://updates.tersus.com/2.3/latest
Containing the most recent version released, containing new (sometimes untested, sometimes temporary) features and bug fixes (see in the Platform Change Log and the Download page). Naturally, this update site is updated more frequently, but care should be taken, basing your work on these interim versions.

Configuring the Tersus update site in the studio

Select Window > Preferences.

Select the Install/Update > Available Software Sites category, and check whether the update site you wish to use (stable or latest, as explained above), appears in the list and is checked.

If the update site does not appear in the list, add it as follows:

Press the Add... button.
In the Location field, enter the URL for the update site you wish to use (see above).
Click the OK button to add the button to the list.
Make sure the update site has been added to the list and is checked.

Click the OK button to save the new preferences.

Configuring the studio for automatic updates

Select Window > Preferences.

In the Install/Update > Automatic Updates category, check the Automatically find new updates and notify me check box.

Click the OK button to save the new preferences.

Now whenever you run the studio, the update site will be checked, and if a new version is found you will be prompted to download and install it. You can also update immediately, via Help > Check for Updates.

If an update is found and you decide to perform it, make sure that once the download and install process is complete, you restart the studio as prompted.

Performing a manual updateIf you have configured the Tersus update site in the studio, but do not wish to configure automatic updates, you can perform a manual update as follows:

Select Help > Check for Updates

If no update is offered, you may need to do the following:

Select Help > Install New Software...

Check all check boxes at the bottom.

Open the Work with drop down list and select the update site (stable or latest).

Once the tree list populates, expand the Tersus tree, and check the version you wish to install.

Click the Finish or Next > buttons, confirming the license, and any unsigned content warning which may appear.

Once the download and install process is complete, restart the studio as prompted.

Performing an offline manual updateIf you wish to update your studio, but have limited network connection, you can download an update archive and perform the actual update offline, as follows:

Download the update site as an archive (see the Tersus Studio - Cross Platform download links in the Downloads page).

Select Help -> Install New Software...

Click the Add... button.

In the Add Repository dialog, click the Archive... button.

In the Repository archive dialog select the update site archive you downloaded initially, and click Open.

Click OK to close the Add Repository dialog and add the archived site to the list of update sites.

Once the tree list populates, expand the Tersus tree, and check the version you wish to install.

Click the Finish or Next > buttons, confirming the license, and any unsigned content warning which may appear.

Once the download and install process is complete, restart the studio as prompted.

After updating using an archived site, you can remove the it from the list of sites , since it is no longer needed.), by clicking the Available Software Sites link (which opens the matching preference sheet), selecting the archived site in the list, and clicking Remove.

Tersus ServerWhich version am I running?To check which version you are running, look in the version.txt file included in the server's installation.Updating the serverBefore updating the server to a new version, and especially when the server is a production one, you should first verify that all applications using the server are compatible with the new version (e.g. by checking them in an updated studio).Once verified, do the following:

Download the new server version.

Stop Tomcat

Move/Remove the existing server version

Extract the downloaded version into the path previously used by the existing one

Start Tomcat

Note that the process above is a simplistic update assuming all applications installed under a specific Tomcat instance are using the same, single copy of the Tersus Server. In practice it is quiet possible for multiple applications, running under a single Tomcat instance, to be using separate copies or indeed versions of the Tersus Server, as configured in each application's context file.
