The <Output> exit does not have a type defined by default (see the note in the template which explains that it can be either text or binary).Usually when a slot (trigger/exit) has no type defined by default, the type propagation mechanism embedded in the studio infers the type by looking for along the flow passing through the slot, for some element with type already defined.
In your case however, the <Message> trigger of Alert has no default type either, and so both remain typeless.
The solution is to set the type of either <Output> or <Message> explicitly, by selecting the type (Text in your case) from the palette and dropping it on one or the other, at which point type propagation will take care of the other.
