I managed to get that going way back (while they still hosted on SourceForge) and might give it a go on a 10.4 box that I have. I did find it fairly simple to step through the instructions but I can't recall the fixes along the way. I do remember there was an issue with scaling the boxes once installed, but I lived with it for a while.
I agree that there should be a packaged app for OS X (I had asked years back, but got a similar response to 'the cross-platform method should be used for these platforms').
Out of curiosity, do you have an Intel Mac (I'd done the install on a PPC)? I was figuring on dual booting with Linux and using their .deb package, which works (and then broke my Java install...).
