Hurray, it worked.
Small reconstruction, in the config file I added the following (in bold):
<Resource name="jdbc/Main" driverClassName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" factory="org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory" useJvmCharsetConverters="true" maxActive="20" maxIdle="10" maxWait="10000" type="javax.sql.DataSource" username="root" password="qwepoi" url="jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1/Administratie" validationQuery="select now()"/>
in /etc/my.cnf ( for the database connection) I added for the client AND server
default-character-set=utf8
At last there was a bug in the gcj converter, so I uploaded the default java environment from Sun restarted tomcat and everything is fine.
