Re: wish list...Date: Jan 15, 2013There are two competing approaches for barcode scanning using your mobile device:

Connecting the mobile device to a dedicated reader (through USB or wireless connection) - in this scenario the reader usually emulates a keyboard entering the encoded data into an input field.
This approach seems better suited to commercial scenarios, requiring frequent scanning, in different (sometimes environmentally challenging) situations, and might possibly be implemented without requiring any changes to the platform.

Interfacing with a native package that allows barcode reading using the camera of the mobile device.
This approach seems relevant to infrequent, personal use, and will probably require changes to the platform to implement a plugin (palette component) or use some other interface.

We have previously looked into both approaches, but all solutions we looked into seemed somewhat immature, so we have no immediate plans to implement either approaches. This would quiet possibly change if one of our commercial customer projects requires it.Regards,DavidSee Also:
