Thanks you for your comments, and I fully accept your criticism. Indeed we have been delaying the stable version way too much. Special apology, John, for not releasing a stable version as planned 3-4 months ago - we kept finding issues we had to fix.
Anyway, a stable version is finally out today, and it includes the support for more flexible UI (see here details and references to a new set of tutorials).
Our next task would be to complete the new set of tutorials of the new UI, and then we'll make it the default. I hope you'll find some of the examples (mainly the tablet examples) more attractive.
