We have no experience running matlab specifically, but I assume you can run it from the command line (with no UI), and have it write the results to a file, in which case you can use Miscellaneous/Run External Command to execute it, followed by Miscellaneous/Read Resource to read the result from the file.Note that this requires installing Matlab on the server machine once the app is deployed, since it is actually executed by the server-side.
Note that conventional Tersus (web/mobile) apps, cannot launch another executable on the client machine (as you ask regarding the button openning matlab), due to security-limitations placed by the browser.
