The Logout plugin cannot be used in conjunction with basic authentication (authenticationMethod="JDBC" in configuration.xml), since the authenticated session is cached by the browser and tomcat.
If you want the ability to logout users, you will have to abandon basic authentication, and completely model login and logout. An example of this is provided in tersus.web - the application managing this site.
